Laparoscopic decompression plus radiofrequency of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. An alternative treatment for refractory meralgia paresthetica.

Abstract
Meralgia paresthetica (MP), is a condition caused by compression neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN). Refractory cases to first-line treatments have been reported. In such cases, nerve decompression can be performed via an open approach through the anterior thigh region or laparoscopically by identifying the nerve from the abdominal side in the inguinal region. Occasionally, once the nerve is located, neurectomy is carried out. However, neurectomy may result in residual pain due to painful anesthesia or permanent hypoesthesia in the anterolateral thigh region. Our team modified the laparoscopic decompression technique by incorporating pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) under direct visualization within the abdominal cavity, obviating neurectomy. The aim of this report is to present a case successfully treated using this surgical approach.
